In Memory of Zeppelin, My Sweet German Shepherd

This blog is dedicated to my German Shepherd, Zeppelin who passed away  quite some time ago. For the miracle of pet bereavement support, I am able to own a dog again. Zeppelin, thank you for being in my life.  I dedicate this writing in your memory.

I remember when you came home for the first time, Zeppelin. You were so cute. I named you Zeppelin. I took you everywhere with me. I loved you very much. When you were a puppy, I would sneak you on the bus in my beach bag. That’s when you were very small, of course. One day when I took you to the beach, you peed in my beach bag. I saw the bag dripping, people noticed and laughed!

You were such a pretty dog. you had a beautiful blond face with a black snout. I just loved the blend of the the colours of your coat. you were a tri-colored, Sable shepherd. You were blond, tan, and black. You were gorgeous. You were also my protector and best friend. You would growl if you didn’t like somebody! You were my dog! Dr, Nowicki, the veterinarian even complimented me by saying she had never seen a dog attach to her owner as you did with me. We had a very strong bond. Everybody knew you were my dog.

It never failed, when a police car or ambulance’s siren would go off, you would always howl. To this day, I always hear your howl whenever I hear a siren. I even howl for you. That’s the wolf in you!

I will always love you. You will forever be present in my heart and soul.

We honor your memory, sweet girl.

Oh, no! My cat has struvite crystals!

Oh, no! My cat has struvite crystals.  Last week I observed my cat, Presley hanging out by the litterbox and urinating frequently and noticed blood.  He was also peeing on blankets frequently too.  I contacted my veterinarian and he told me to come in immediately which I did.  On a side, if a male cat has a urinary tract infection, it can be very serious if left untreated.  Male cats have been known to die within in three days as they get blockage.

So I went to the vet and he said he does indeed have a Urinary Tract Infection.  Thankfully he was not blocked.  The bladder area was soft which was good.  He suggested Presley start on a veterinary food diet and take an antibiotic called Orbax, that I administer once a day by mouth and a prescription of 1/4 tablet of Valium to relax his urethra, and drink a lot of water.  He also sent me home with a test kit to get a sample of his urine.  The test turned out to be that Presley has the Struvite Crystals.

I am not a fan of veterinary food.  So, I went to Healthy Pets with Dr. Karen Becker‘s website and read that raw rabbit would be a good protein for my cat and cranberry helps too.  So I purchased the raw rabbit, which Presley devoured thankfully.  I also went to a local vitamin store and purchased Stone Free,™ which is an herb that dissolves stones and crystals as well as provides urinary, kidney and gall bladder support, and cranberry d’mannose.  I mixed a tablet of each and put it in a glass with 1 oz of purified water which lasts three days —  On day 3, you must change to new tablets and water —

Then I filled up an eyedropper and have been giving it to him two times a day.  I also purchased a cat water fountain placed away from the food.  Very important is your cat have water.  So far Presley, my cat is doing well.  He is peeing good.  I have been checking his litter box for blood which there has been no presence of thankfully.  So far this regiment is working well.  As a cat sitter in Jupiter, FL, it is my honor and duty to keep my clients and audience informed of how Presley is doing.

*Disclaimer  This is not to substitute for veterinary advice.  Always consult with your veterinarian and follow what you feel is right for you.  This is a very serious challenge that requires veterinary attention.

Think peanut butter is safe for your pets, think again!

Peanut butter is a nice treat that you can give your pets.  You can stuff a Kong toy with it, put it on a celery stick, make your own peanut butter treats, and you can even hide pills in it to trick your pet to take their meds!  Dogs love it!  But beware!  There are some brands of peanut butter that contain xylitol, which is deadly to pets.  When you are purchasing peanut butter, make sure you READ THE INGREDIENTS.

Here is a very helpful article that contains some of the brands that contain Xylitol, the effects of when a dog ingests it, and what to do.  If you suspect your pet has had any xylitol, contact your vet and/or Pet Poison Control immediately.

As a pet sitter in Jupiter, FL, we like this recipe. Click on this link Homemade Peanut Butter for your dog(s).  Your dog will love this!!!!

Pet Blessings

Yesterday I heard someone reading this beautiful blessing from the Daily Word, and it touched my heart so much, I felt compelled to share it on my blog.  To me, pets give such unconditional love, touch our hearts and leave permanent paw prints on our souls.  Enjoy reading this blessing and I hope you get the same feeling as I did.
Pet Blessing
“I am grateful for the healing love of pets.

Pets love us no matter what we do—or don’t do. Animal friends don’t judge whether humans are worthy, nor do they withhold their love. They simply love us for being. Through their unconditional love, we experience the healing power of God.

The calm I feel when I pet an animal, or the joy of watching animals at play, brings me a sense of wholeness. Animals nurture the spiritual qualities of peace and happiness in me. They are living examples for how to trust the body’s intrinsic rhythm. They instinctively know when to rest, play, stretch, and exercise. The greatest instinct of all is their love with openhearted loyalty.

Today I thank pets and animals for bringing healing love to me and to all of humanity.

But ask the animals, and they will teach you; the birds of the air, and they will tell you.—Job 12:7″
