July 4th Pet Safety Tips

Hard to believe that July 4th is this Monday!  Wow!  Here are some pet safety tips to keep your precious treasures out of harms way.

  • Keep your pets away from the BBQ area due to matches and lighter fluid.
  • Do not give alcoholic beverages or caffeine to your pets as it is toxic.
  • Keep your pets home; don’t take them to the fireworks display.
  • Make sure your pets have their proper tags attached to their collars. If they were to get loose, they can be properly returned.
  • Lots of dogs end up in shelters on this day as they get disoriented and lost due to fireworks.
  • Keep your dogs in the crate if necessary.  As another option, keep them in the laundry room as it is typically well-ventilated.
  • No table leftovers as they can be toxic.
  • Keep them inside so they are safe.

In Memory of Zeppelin, My Sweet German Shepherd

This blog is dedicated to my German Shepherd, Zeppelin who passed away  quite some time ago. For the miracle of pet bereavement support, I am able to own a dog again. Zeppelin, thank you for being in my life.  I dedicate this writing in your memory.

I remember when you came home for the first time, Zeppelin. You were so cute. I named you Zeppelin. I took you everywhere with me. I loved you very much. When you were a puppy, I would sneak you on the bus in my beach bag. That’s when you were very small, of course. One day when I took you to the beach, you peed in my beach bag. I saw the bag dripping, people noticed and laughed!

You were such a pretty dog. you had a beautiful blond face with a black snout. I just loved the blend of the the colours of your coat. you were a tri-colored, Sable shepherd. You were blond, tan, and black. You were gorgeous. You were also my protector and best friend. You would growl if you didn’t like somebody! You were my dog! Dr, Nowicki, the veterinarian even complimented me by saying she had never seen a dog attach to her owner as you did with me. We had a very strong bond. Everybody knew you were my dog.

It never failed, when a police car or ambulance’s siren would go off, you would always howl. To this day, I always hear your howl whenever I hear a siren. I even howl for you. That’s the wolf in you!

I will always love you. You will forever be present in my heart and soul.

We honor your memory, sweet girl.

We honor your memory, sweet girl.

Think peanut butter is safe for your pets, think again!

Peanut butter is a nice treat that you can give your pets.  You can stuff a Kong toy with it, put it on a celery stick, make your own peanut butter treats, and you can even hide pills in it to trick your pet to take their meds!  Dogs love it!  But beware!  There are some brands of peanut butter that contain xylitol, which is deadly to pets.  When you are purchasing peanut butter, make sure you READ THE INGREDIENTS.

Here is a very helpful article that contains some of the brands that contain Xylitol, the effects of when a dog ingests it, and what to do.  If you suspect your pet has had any xylitol, contact your vet and/or Pet Poison Control immediately.

As a pet sitter in Jupiter, FL, we like this recipe. Click on this link Homemade Peanut Butter for your dog(s).  Your dog will love this!!!!

Pet Blessings

Yesterday I heard someone reading this beautiful blessing from the Daily Word, and it touched my heart so much, I felt compelled to share it on my blog.  To me, pets give such unconditional love, touch our hearts and leave permanent paw prints on our souls.  Enjoy reading this blessing and I hope you get the same feeling as I did.
Pet Blessing
“I am grateful for the healing love of pets.

Pets love us no matter what we do—or don’t do. Animal friends don’t judge whether humans are worthy, nor do they withhold their love. They simply love us for being. Through their unconditional love, we experience the healing power of God.

The calm I feel when I pet an animal, or the joy of watching animals at play, brings me a sense of wholeness. Animals nurture the spiritual qualities of peace and happiness in me. They are living examples for how to trust the body’s intrinsic rhythm. They instinctively know when to rest, play, stretch, and exercise. The greatest instinct of all is their love with openhearted loyalty.

Today I thank pets and animals for bringing healing love to me and to all of humanity.

But ask the animals, and they will teach you; the birds of the air, and they will tell you.—Job 12:7″
